Would Watchtower Ever Risk Setting Another Date

there was a 50 year gap between the failed dates of 1925 and 1975.. memories fade, people die, and who cares what was said 50 years ago.. most jw's now in the religion werent there when 1975 was a thing.

even my mother who was baptized in 1974 who i do remember speaking about it back in the day, can barely remember what the fuss was about.

for active jw's who are doing all there studying online now, its practically impossible to find any wt contemporary reference to 1975.. i read recently (sorry i cant source it right now) that at the time, even watchtower may have taken the view that even if they knew 1975 was wrong, the short term gains would far outstrip those who left leading to an overall net gain so it was a risk worth taking.

Crazy elder said to me once that the 1000 year reign of Christ had already begun. So I told him that Satan hadn't been abyssed yet. He made a sort of gulping noise - as they do when you point these things out to them.

At some point after this, for a totally unrelated reason he started phoning someone and talking dirty to them. Then he got taken off as an elder. But it was all hushed up as to why he was taken off - that's cause so many of his family were elders.

Later that same family took the lead in throwing me out for sticking to what the Bible said.

They are declining in so far as anyone with half a brain is fading away or has left. But the ones who were called on but never really 'made the truth their own' are responding a little.

My take on this is that Lockdown has made some lonely and afraid. Also if your business depends on networking a church group can be a useful source of customers.

Informally they are saying that Armageddon will come before the end of the year. So no change there - it's still just around the corner, sometimes during or after a boring meeting.

Two days after they disfellowshipped me for sticking to the words of the prophet Daniel (I held the view that the number 3 actually meant the number 3) they went off and had a congregation party and they put on their version of the Greatest Showman. Barnum. It was Barnum who said there's one born every minute.

Also has it ever occured to you that in their world 1975 might be 1000 years long?

ExJws Should Know Better Than To Just Accept Things And Follow The Leader

i would think that exjws would exercise more critical thinking than not.

now we are thrust in this “ world” and take sides on social issues and politics.. just because our government leaders say something it doesn’t mean it’s right.

just because the majority of the news media tells us how we should think, it doesn’t mean we have to follow.

Yes fooled by Watchtower up to a point but I was lied to in my study and I did not understand their mind games. I stood firm for what I knew the Bible really said and did my best to make sure I was thrown out as publicly as I could be to expose them for what they were. Liars and con-men.

Sometimes you have to experience how crafty people are and that despite professing to have your best interests at heart (and be telling the truth), they are really trying to enslave you and remove your freedom. I was too naive to understand that anyone would be so cruel to their fellow Man. But I have learnt now.

Oh and by the time they threw me out, I had already disfellowshipped the Governing Body. I figured they had no claim to be Christian or view me as tax collector.

(Matthew 18:17) . . .If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector.

The Hebrew slavery in Egypt.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his own relatives. He was a man of great integrity and refused to get involved with fornication. He suffered unjustly and even lost his status as a slave and was put in prison where he had to wear iron fetters.

He was utterly helpless and betrayed. But a way out was made for him, because the hand of Almighty God was with him.Therefore, Joseph came to be over the house of pharaoh and all the people had to obey him.

Later he even made-up, not with those for whom he had slaved but those who had put him into slavery. Ie HIS OWN BROTHERS.

Also he recognised the benefits that had come from the hardship he had suffered.
